Use and Care

See warnings stated above. BEFORE USING FOR THE FIRST TIME. Wash cookware thoroughly with hot, soapy water. Rinse and dry. "Condition" the interior with cooking oil. Remove excess oil with a dry paper towel. "Condition" regularly. For best results, preheat the cookware on medium heat for 2 to 3 minutes prior to adding food; this ensures a more consistent temperature during the cooking cycle. Continue cooking using low to medium heat. Use plastic, nylon or wooden cooking utensils. Minor scratching will only affect the appearance of the pan. It will not affect the performance. Cookware can be used in a preheated oven. Phenolic knobs and handles can be used in oven up to 350 degrees F or 177 degrees C. DO NOT put in oven when self-cleaning cycle is operating. Cover Vacuum: cover left on pan after turning heat down or off may result in a vacuum that causes the cover to seal to the pan. If seal occurs, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO REMOVE THE COVER FROM THE PAN IN ANY WAY. Contact the World Kitchen Consumer Care Center. To avoid cover seal, remove cover or set it ajar before turning heat off.

To prevent warping, let cookware cool before coming into contact with water. To remove burned on food, soak before cleaning and scrub with a plastic scouring pad. DO NOT use abrasive scouring powders, pads or steel wool. Thoroughly wash pan after each use. Use hot soapy water to avoid staining caused by food or grease residue buildup. Dishwasher use will dull aluminum and phenolic finishes. Avoid long-term storage with foods. Some foods and salt can "pit" the surfaces and make it difficult to clean. Add salt to liquid only after it reaches the boiling points, and stir to dissolve completely. Use of high heat may cause foods to stick.

Not Your Mother's Magnalite!
I own five pieces of this cookware branded Magnalite. Four pieces were my mother's. She had them for over thirty years. They were made and marked by General Housewares Corp (GHC), an Indiana company, at their plant in Sidney, Ohio. The fifth piece was made there too but not by GHC and that's the problem. GHC made Magnalite up until 1995 when they sold the name Magnalite and the plant. The fourth piece I own was made in Ohio after 1995 by another company. Though it looks similiar in design, it is measurably half the thickness and weight of my mother's pieces. There is also another company that is using the name Magnalite that is making them in China. Replacement parts for the new Magnalite will not fit the original old pieces. So todays Magnalite is not the same as your mother's. Be advised.

The last cookware you'll ever buy
My mother has had this line since she was married in 1970. They have been through everything from burnt-on peanut brittle syrup that required a few hours of steel wool and elbow grease to remove to 35 years of dishwasher cleanings. I expect she'll go to her grave with these pots. I, on the other hand, was married four years ago and recieved a "top-of-the-line" brand of cookware that has a non-stick coating that cost the same as this set. I've now had to replace the non-stick pans because the coating has started to peel, and my pans have never heated as evenly as those of my mother's. I've invested in Magnalites, and I expect they'll be the last cookware I'll ever buy.
Magnalite cookware
This is not like my mother's original Magnalite Cookware set. Its lighter in weight for sure! Not overly pleased with the set. Not up to the standards of the old Magnalite, in my opinion.
